Marshmallow Surprise

For this Technology Challenge the kids had a number of marshmallows, toothpicks, straws and some string and their task was to hold as many marshmallows above the tabletop as they could. No marshmallows were allowed to touch the table. They started with 5 marshmallows and could get another five when those ones were off the table. Some very interesting constructions:


Buy Your Resources

For this challenge the kids were given a budget of "$4" for their team and had to buy from Deb's shop. Their task was to make a construction that protruded as far out from the table as possible. They had to decide what they would buy. Examples of prices were:
1 piece of newsprint - 50 cents
1 mtr cellotape - 20 cents, limit of 2 metres
1/2 mtr string - 10 cents, limit of 2 metres
1 iceblock stick - 10 cents, limit of 10
The construction had to be self-supporting and the measurement started at the edge of the table.
